The Earth Institute at Columbia University is seeking two qualified student interns for the following position:

Internship period: October 1, 2008 – May 31, 2009 (or possibly longer)
Compensation: $12 / hour
Time commitment: 5-8 hours per week (can occasionally work remotely)
Job description: This position will report to the Millennium Village Project Epidemiologist/Health Data Analyst. The Health Research and Data Management Intern will help clean and analyze the project’s health-related household surveys and biological measurement datasets. S/he will also help prepare health research for internal and external presentations/publications. Intern will perform related duties as required.
Minimum qualifications: Studying for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience.
Additional position-specific minimum qualifications: Understanding of basic statistical analysis and epidemiologic concepts required. Knowledge of Stata statistical software and CSPro survey design software a plus. An excellent eye for detail and attention to accuracy. Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet shifting deadlines. Equally capable of working independently and as part of a team. Strong work ethic, self-motivation and initiative. Sound independent judgment, high ethical standards, and ability to maintain the confidentiality of information. Proficiency in French a plus.
