One of the best ways to support the Earth Institute is with a gift to the Earth Institute Fund. Your gift immediately benefits research, educational programs and on-the-ground work, so vital to our mission. We put your gift to work right away so that we can advance the ideas and innovations that hold the most potential for addressing the challenges of sustainable development. View the areas to support page for descriptions of other projects and initiatives that you can support.
Approximately 45 percent of our private donations come individuals, in gifts of all sizes. Every gift makes a difference – donate now or read below for instructions to make gifts by check, credit card or wire transfer.
- By Check - If you would like to mail a check, please make it payable to the Trustees of Columbia University. This must be accompanied by a letter noting that the gift is for the Earth Institute and the purpose of the gift. The gift and letter should be mailed to:
Teresa S. Karamanos, Director, Funding Initiatives
The Earth Institute, Columbia University
2910 Broadway, MC 3277
Hogan Hall, Level A
New York, NY 10025
- By Credit Card - A credit card gift to the Earth Institute entitles you to the same income-tax deduction as a gift of cash. To make your credit card gift, use our secure online gift form. If you would like to make a gift in installments, please fax or mail the Recurring Credit Card Donation Form.
- By Wire Transfer - While most donors send personal checks, the Earth Institute also accepts cash gifts by wire transfer. To make a gift by wire, please contact us at support@ei.columbia.edu or 212-854-7878.
Making gifts of appreciated stocks and bonds can be a simple and convenient way to donate; and if you are considering a donation of $1,000 or more, there are many tax advantages to giving securities.
Contact us at support@ei.columbia.edu or 212-854-7878 or view Columbia’s ways to give securities page for more information.
With a little planning, your gift to the University can help achieve your financial, philanthropic and estate-planning goals.
Planned gifts give back, allowing you to take sizeable income, capital gains and estate deductions on your taxes. They can provide income for you and your family for life. And planned gifts can be much larger than other gifts, so you can leave a legacy that fits your philanthropic goals.
For more information, please visit the Columbia University Office of Gift Planning online. You can also contact them by email at gift.planning@columbia.edu, by phone at (800) 338-3294 or by mail at 622 West 113th Street New York, NY 10025.

We will send a special card commemorating the gift to your loved one without specifying the gift size.
- Matching Gifts
Employer matching gift programs are a great way to get more mileage from your contribution. Check our matching gifts database to see if your employer has a matching gift program. Specify your matching gift details on our donation page.
- Pledges
By combining yearly gifts into a multi-year pledge, you can have a greater impact on the work of researchers, scientists and students at the Earth Institute.
