Description:
We are determining the bioavailability (i.e., the fraction absorbed) of soil Pb in humans, using the technique of stable isotope dilution. The soils under investigation have been obtained from Superfund sites in Joplin, Missouri, and Tar Creek, Oklahoma, the site of former mining and smelting activities. We are also determining whether in situ treatment of soil with phosphate ammending agents alters the absorption of Pb from these soils.
