Project Leader:
Dr. Upmanu Lall

Earth Institute Contact: Dr. Upmanu Lall

Locations: Brazil

Description:
Two issues are being currently tackled: (1) Design of long-lead forecasting systems to improve annual and longer water allocation and system operation strategies in the Jaguaribe Metropolitana basin; and (2) the development of processes to use specialized forecasts for drought contingency planning. A current project highlight is the new strategy for adaptively managing and allocating water resources in Ceará reservoirs using seasonal to inter-annual forecasts. It is developed with a goal to apply climate information towards short-term water management.
