Natural hazards caused 6,647 fatalities in the Caribbean and Central America in 2004 and are a recurring and persistent humanitarian and development threat. This study will assimilate remote sensing data from NASA and high resolution Demographic and socio-economic data to develop multi-hazard comparative risk Maps for this region, using state-of-the-art multi-hazard vulnerability assessment methodology. We will merge SRTM elevation data with Landsat images to Determine hazard impacts, in particular by developing coastal inundation maps, and evaluating land-cover and ecosystem changes. NASA data provides the raw information required to assess potential vulnerabilities and support hazard reduction and mitigation policies.
