Description:
This project will develop isotopic records for the late Paleocene (60-55 Ma) from DSDP Site 215, located in the Indian Ocean. During the late Paleocene, the Earth was much warmer than today, with either significant ice sheets absent on the Antarctic continent or at the most being small and ephemeral in nature. By developing oxygen and carbon isotopic records from the Indian Ocean, the student will be able to piece together oceanic circulation patterns from an area that has a paucity of records for this time period.
