Description:
Dr. Raman Sukumar is the world's leading authority on the Asian elephant; he has established the Asian Elephant Research and Conservation Center in Bangalore, India, to work on behalf of elephant science and conservation. Wildlife Trust is the international partner of the Conservation Center. Dr. Sukumar, Dr. Venkataraman, and their staff are working on a wide range of elephant research projects, policy issues, and education activities. On the cutting edge of wildlife technology, the Center initiated a satellite-tracking project for elephants in India. Their GIS mapping database continues to be a standard for computer mapping of an endangered species. This year, Wildlife Trust strengthens its partnership by providing core support, money that is difficult to obtain from other sources.
