Long term change in an aggrading deciduous forest

Project Leader:
Dr. William Schuster

Earth Institute Contact:

Locations: United States of America

Description:
The 1500 hectare Black Rock Forest is representative of much of the eastern North American deciduous forest that has been aggrading in recovery from prior agricultural use and repeated clearcutting during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Forest inventory, botanical surveys, and long-term plot data are available from 1930 to date that enable study of many past and current changes in our native forests. These data are being analyzed to examine biomass development, controls on carbon storage, and long-term changes in biological diversity.
