Simeon
Ehui has over fifteen
years of professional international agricultural science research
experience in Africa, and in Asia. Before joining the World
Bank on December 15, 2003 Simeon worked from 1995 to 2003 at
the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)-- one
of the 16 centers of the Consultative Group on International
Agricultural Research (CGIAR)-- where he served as Coordinator
of the Livestock Policy Analysis Program while based in Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia. Prior to ILRI he served from 1990 to 1994
as Agricultural Economist and Head of the Socio-economic Sciences
Division of the ex-ILCA (International Livestock Centre for
Africa). From 1988 to 1990 he served as Agricultural Economist
and Rockefeller Foundation Fellow at the International Institute
of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)--another CGIAR Center-- while
based in Ibadan, Nigeria. He authored or co-authored over 80
socio-economic and policy research publications relevant to
national researchers and policy makers in Africa and Asia.
His writings have covered various topics including: policies
for the sustainable management of land and enhancing food security;
policies for improving the competitiveness of smallholder livestock
producers; and policies for improving domestic and international
market access by smallholder livestock producers in Africa
and Asia. He is also the co-author of the popular IFPRI/FAO/ILRI
publications: Livestock to 2020: The next food revolution and
recent ILRI publication:Ten years of Livestock Policy Analysis:
Policies for improving productivity, competitiveness and sustainable
livelihoods of smallholder livestock producers
Simeon obtained his PhD degree from Purdue University, USA
in 1987. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the State
of Food and Agriculture of the Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations (FAO) as well as member of the Advisory
Board of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)
project on Successes in African Agriculture. He is Chair (2003-
2004) of the International Committee of the American Agricultural
Economics Association and a Distinguished Agricultural Alumnus
of Purdue University (2001) in recognition of his contribution
to the agricultural economics profession.
