Transforming Societies to Mitigate and Adapt to Climate Change

In the shadow of the BP oil catastrophe, President Obama announced that the United States should “aggressively accelerate” its transition from oil to alternative sources of energy. Denmark, for its part, has vowed to produce at least 30 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020 as part of the EU climate action and renewable energy package. But bold objectives need pragmatic and savvy policy solutions, which require partnership between public and private sectors.
