The Earth Institute Fellows Symposium: Meeting the Challenges of Sustainable Development in a Changing World
Speaker: Tara Troy
Water resources are currently facing the dual pressures of climate change and population growth; the former may affect supply and the latter demand. We focus on the interactions of climate variability and human water demands in the Indian Punjab, the breadbasket of India. Monsoon rainfall and snowmelt dictates the seasonal cycle of precipitation, but large agricultural water demands occur during the drier winter season, and this talk will discuss the effects of water saving measures.
